Discover the Heroic Viticulture of Prosecco
A land where Glera, the local grape variety used to produce Prosecco, thrives on slopes so steep that the viticulture practiced here is known as heroic. Some vineyards are situated on slopes requiring the use of teleferic systems for harvesting and transportation.
Vineyards with this morphology necessitate total manual labor, from planting to grape harvesting, ensuring the highest standards of quality. The panorama is truly evocative, with rolling hills and vineyards dotted with small historic cottages used by winegrowers to store their tools.
In recognition of its historical context and stunning beauty, UNESCO declared the Prosecco hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene a World Heritage Site in 2019.
The hard work of thousands of small wine growers has created a unique agrarian landscape and a destination for millions of wine lovers worldwide. Every year, visitors from around the globe come to enjoy a glass of Prosecco amidst the outstanding landscape.
Alongside Glera, the primary grape of Prosecco, other local varieties such as Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Verdisio (honored with its own festival), and Boschera continue to be safeguarded by courageous winemakers, enriching the region’s viticultural heritage.
